Black Girl with a Backpack is E. Felicia. I currently live and work in Tulsa, OK. I’ve resolved to travel the way that I’ve always wanted. That is to say I want to travel widely, and often.
Being dissuaded is easy when so many travel blogs and Instagram accounts only show pretty pictures of conventionally pretty people, on expensive trips with all their friends. Me? I’m not conventionally attractive, I’m booking on a budget, and group travel is nightmare material. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to have adventures too.
A few years ago, I overcame fear and anxiety so I could take my first major solo trip. Maybe you haven’t traveled because you’re afraid of this, that, or the other. Maybe you think you can’t afford it. Hey, maybe your mama (or daddy) just responds to every trip idea with, “You know they don’t like Black people over there, right?”
I want others realize the same thing that I have: there’s power in seeing the world. Sure, I’ll share my travels, but I’ll also equip and inspire you to get out there and travel too. This is central to my “radical” belief is that travel is for everyone. From the person who doesn’t have a passport yet, to the person who’s afraid that travel isn’t for them due to cost, time commitment, or even health reasons. If you’re willing to experience some discomfort by departing from your norm, then you can make travel happen. I’m here to help!
